Gluttony:
Overeating Might be a Sin, But This Place is a Slice of Heaven and You'll Want to Eat Everything on the Menu Review by Rajkhet Dirzhud-Rashid
1924 Pacific Ave in Tacoma - 253-272-8200 Since I was a child, I’ve been told that gluttony is a sin, and yet also I was told to eat everything on my plate. So, following my own gut, I’ve just eaten what I wanted and enjoyed food to the point that I believe a well cooked meal is like spending a moment in heaven and isn’t sinful at all. My friend and I, who loves food even more than I do, dined at least twice at this delightful place, Indochine in Tacoma. We were entranced by the choices and the tastes we enjoyed. We also liked the atmosphere, which ranges from ultra-modern, with the polished wood chairs and tables to sensuous, with a room set aside for groups. In this room, you sit on pillows at a large, round table with your meal in front of you. This was very sexy to me and my friend! The dishes I’d recommend trying are a magical dish called The Black Sea, a marriage of sea food including scallops, shrimp and calamari atop a bed of black Thai Rice simmered in coconut milk. The only word for this is yum! I’d also recommend the dish she and I shared, Jungle Curry Chicken (the menu calls it “vaguely dangerous”). I don’t know if I’d consider it dangerous, but it is sinfully delicious, especially if you’re nibbling on the Jaded Shrimp, Crab and Avocado Salad, which arrives in an artistic preparation, topped by an orchid (not edible, but pretty anyway). Your mouth will orgasm, trust me, and you’ll feel like you’ve just kissed God/Goddess after a meal like this. Oh, and don’t forget to finish with the tasty raspberry sorbet and peanut butter ice cream. You can get it served in one dish and share it, like we did, or get them separately. Try it together and you won’t ever want ordinary flavors again. It’s best to make reservations, especially if you’re going on the weekend. Prepare to spend a bit of cash, because Indochine is not cheap, but it’s so worth it. For reservations call: 1-253-272-8200. Indochine is located in Tacoma, across from The Glass Museum and if you take the bus, you can get the street car and get off almost right there. |
