Fear and Sinning in Seattle

by Chuck Foster

Our good friend Georgia Myles invited us down to her SHOW at The Central last month, how could we refuse? To polish this show off, one of our most recent advertisers happened to be performing with her, Jacqueline Hyde. Jacqueline has performed for The Sinner through Burning Heart’s Burlesque more than once but I had yet to meet her face to face. My reclusive nature and OCD for anonymity is the root of this evil, but that’s a different story for a different time. Regardless of mental dysfunctions, this Wednesday night was perhaps one of the best burlesque nights The Sinner has witnessed.

Forget the notion that Jacqueline bought a full page ad with us, it has nothing to do with my coverage of this local entertainer. This woman can dance! As a dedicated follower of the burlesque scene, let me say that there’s a lot more to a good show than tits and ass. There’s the music, the props, the dress, the dance, etc. Jacqueline and her troupe that night had it all, including the tits and ass! Check out their ad in The Sinner and MySpace site for upcoming shows.

The Sinner could cover PURE every month and easily keep it fresh. And we just might, but their recent PURE EVIL show certainly deserved another mention. Just when you think you’ve seen everything these freaks can do they pull another rabbit from their hat, one of Alice’s. Then you add The Mother-Fucking Midway Orchestra into the picture and you give Alice a reason to run for cover. Talk about a Freak Show, as sung by the Orchestra. Check this show out every month at Noc Noc.

About five years ago a friend asked us to come out to The Beacon Hill Pub to see their friend’s band, The Sacred Truths. I had met the drummer a few months earlier so I thought why not. My taste of music then was a lot different then it is now. I was the victim of corporate music, MTV and VH1 garbage. The Sacred Truths changed my views on the music industry as much as Hunter S. Thompson and Aleister Crowley did on the literary industry. I became an instant fan.

It was certainly a sad occasion to attend their last show at the Blue Moon last month. Aside from their cosmic performance, the crowd that showed up to say farewell made this one stellar moment. Wall to wall thirsty fans stood, breaking down bartenders and driving neighbors insane with cheers and tears. It was only suiting for this fan that their last show be as memorable as their first. Don’t worry sacred fans, The Sinner is already in the works of planting a reunion seed in the not-so near future. Whether or not that bastard seed will sprout is up to you...

The Sinner has a long history of supporting the underground scene, so it was no surprise when the gang from Urban Bombshells asked us if we’d be interested in sponsoring their website launch party. This new troupe is an online community based around models and pin-up photography. They are not a corporation, nor pornographic and they pride themselves as not being “elitist assholes like certain other sites”.

Their show at El Corazon last January was nothing less than ground-breaking. They defied the odds of what mainstream America says can and cannot be done. Rappers jammed beside rockers, only leaving the stage for brief moments to quench their thirst with strong drinks. And when the Urban Bombshells hit he stage, it was atomic. The crowd from the bar came pouring in like ants to an unguarded feast. Check these gals out for more performances and such at www.urbanbombshells.com.
