Urban BombshellsUrban Bombshells

submission from Gregory Baxley

What started out as a one-time only performance to appease the crowd at January’s launch party for UrbanBombshells.com, has become a journey for a talented group of models and dancers. In a city where burlesque has become a staple, oversaturated with troupes, the Urban Bombshells Burlesque Show has managed to reach acclaim no other group has been able to touch. Their third show, alongside headliner My Life With the Thrill Kill Kult was performed in front of a raving crowd of 600; a feat nonexistent by normal standards. The ladies of Urban Bombshells including models Sarah Estrella, Aris, Lolo Luxx, Nova, Kyoko, Whisper De Corvo and dancers Gracie Garnet and Soliloquy have seemingly gained a form of rock star status. With a penchant for headlining shows alongside both hip-hop and rock performers, they’ve attracted audiences not normally exposed to the art of burlesque. Their stage show, which consist of classic burlesque elements entwined within performance art, jazz and a rock n’ roll mentality, has further proved their originality.

“We have a diverse fan base because the girls each execute their own strengths; the show is quite prolific,” says director and dancer Gracie Garnet. Though it was never the initial intention to develop into a full-fledged touring show, the girls haven’t been left much of a choice. The Urban Bombshells name quickly Urban Bombshells logobecame representative of a show not to be missed, and there has been nowhere to go but up. It’s that mentality, the nature of shunning limitations that has fueled the constantly developing shows. There is no shying away from certain themes or music genres as the Urban Bombshells seem to realize that anything and everything will appeal to someone. Having performed in half the rock clubs in Seattle sets the group apart, putting on a show that fits in venues not normally used for burlesque. The girls also have another favorable sanction in their corner, the fact that they are the youngest aged troupe in Seattle and well beyond the city limits. With the eldest member a mere 26 years old, and the youngest a lusty 19, it’s no wonder the Urban Bombshells are considered the most attractive group around. Then when you factor in their talent, it becomes undeniable as to why the Urban Bombshells Burlesque Show is held in such high regard. With a heavy rehearsal schedule between countless performances, each with an ever changing show, it’s impossible to experience the same spectacle twice. Between Whisper De Corvo’s belly dancing and the rock edge of Soliloquy’s Ozzy Osbourne influenced bondage piece, the Bombshells are as consistently brilliant as they are beautiful. Urban Bombshells
